Kale Tepe is a hill overlooking the Dojran Battlefield which was known by the Allied Forces as the Grande Couronne. The infamous Bulgarian Observation Post nicknamed by the British Soldiers "The Devil's Eye" is located at the summit. A number of years ago stairs were constructed to provide access to this now popular location. The stairs have become damaged and dangerous, particularly when wet. The stairs are also quite steep and for some visitors difficult to climb. With support from the Embassy of the UK in Skopje a new trail was constructed to bypass the stairs and a steep and dangerous section of trail. The new trail provides a much easier, and safer route to visit the summit of Kale Tepe.
Stone staircase was deteriorating due to poor construction, weather and lack of maintenance.
Parts of trail had become unsafe due to poor construction and lack of maintenance.
Visitors had to walk through a communication trench which was difficult for some visitors. Damage was also being caused to the trench itself.
A new trail was constructed to bypass the stairs and steep part of the trail. The trail improves access and provides a safer route to the summit of Kale Tepe.
The trail is much easier for people who have difficulty walking up stairs.
A small bridge was constructed over the communication trench to make it easier to cross. This also prevents further damage to the trench.
